A random Bible verse generator selects a passage from a fixed collection and displays its text, book reference, testament, and theme. This edition contains 380 passages: 194 from the Old Testament and 186 from the New Testament. English results use the King James Version. You can narrow the draw to one testament and one of eight themes, including comfort, hope, wisdom, and peace, then choose up to five different passages. Selection happens in the browser and does not create or translate Scripture. A theme is an editorial reading aid, not an authoritative interpretation. Which translation does the generator use, and why the KJV?
English results use the King James Version. Other language pages load their own stored editions rather than machine-translating the English text. The version is identified below the results. An old publication date does not by itself establish permission for every edition or jurisdiction.
How many verses are in the pool, and how is it split?
380 verses: 194 from the Old Testament (71 of them from Psalms) and 186 from the New Testament. Each verse carries one or two of the eight themes, and every theme has at least 38 verses, so no filter combination comes up empty.
What are the odds of drawing a specific verse?
With no filters, each verse has a 1/380 chance per draw, about 0.26%. Theme filters shrink the pool: faith holds 113 verses, comfort 66, strength 67, and encouragement 47, so a specific comfort verse surfaces roughly once every 66 comfort-filtered draws. For multi-picks, one exact set of n verses from 380 has probability 1 in C(380, n), a specific pair is 1 in 72,010.
Can the same verse appear twice in one draw?
No. Each batch contains distinct passages. The same passage may appear again after another click; copy a batch before drawing again if you want to keep it.
Will you add modern translations like the NIV or ESV?
No additional translation is promised. A new edition would need a reliable source, matching passage references, text verification, and appropriate permission for the intended distribution before it could be added.
How were the themes assigned to each verse?
Themes are preset editorial labels stored with each passage. They help narrow a reading session but are neither exhaustive classifications nor a substitute for the chapter's context.
Why 380 verses instead of the whole Bible?
The tool offers a limited reading collection rather than the entire biblical canon. A result may be useful as a starting point, but relevance depends on the reader and the surrounding chapter.
Does the page store or share my draws?
The draw is calculated locally and the tool has no saved-draw history. Copy a passage if you want to keep it. This describes the generator only, not all site analytics or advertising; consult the site's privacy notice for those services.
