Name Generator
Anthropological Name System // v1.0
No Data Generated
How this tool helps
Real-world mode requests full names from Random User API v1.4 and therefore needs an internet connection. The available nationality filters are limited to the provider’s supported countries; Chinese and Japanese options are not offered. Fantasy names come from RandomHub’s local JSON lists and can be filtered by first letter.
Two clearly separated sources
Provider-supported nationalities only
Are results guaranteed unique?

Who is the name generator for?
Fiction writers & screenwriters
Pull a name when stuck on what to call a character. The randomness pushes you toward names you wouldn't pick by reflex — and a story shaped by "Tomás" reads differently than one shaped by "Tom."
RPG GMs naming NPCs on the fly
Players walk into a tavern, you have three seconds to name the bartender. Pull a name, decide accent and history later. Saves the session from "Bob the Generic Bartender."
Parents brainstorming baby names
Use the pool as a low-stakes idea source — pull twenty, save the three you didn't hate. Better than name books because nothing is suggested with a "trending" badge.
Designers needing user placeholders
Real-feeling names in mockups beat "John Smith" everywhere. Drop a multicultural set into your prototype and see how the layout handles names of different lengths.
Why use this name generator?
Two clearly separated sources
Real-world names are fetched from Random User API v1.4. Dragon, elf, wizard, and robot names are selected locally from bundled RandomHub lists.
Provider-supported nationalities only
The real-name filters cover America, Britain, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Germany, India, Iran, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey. “Anywhere” mixes those supported sources.
How people use the name generator
Build a fiction cast
Use Real names when you want full names from Random User API v1.4, then narrow the provider request by nationality and gender. Treat the results as starting points, not as a cultural check.
Request ten Spanish results, keep two that fit the cast, then research each character's background before publishing.
Name fantasy characters quickly
Switch to the bundled dragon, elf, wizard, or robot list. These local fantasy lists support an optional first letter; nationality and gender apply only to Real names.
Choose Wizard, enter M as the first letter, and generate a short list for tonight's game.
Fill prototypes with realistic shapes
Real mode returns provider-supplied full names rather than isolated first names. This is useful for checking cards, tables, and forms, within the nationalities Random User API v1.4 supports.
Generate twenty full names and check whether long family names wrap cleanly in a member table.
Create a source-aware shortlist
Decide first whether the task needs external real-world test data or local fantasy ideas. Real mode makes a provider request; fantasy mode draws only from the selected bundled category.
Use Real names for a contact-table mockup, then switch to Elf for a separate game-character shortlist.
How to use the name generator
- 1.
Choose the source mode
Real names requests full names from Random User API v1.4. Fantasy selects locally from the dragon, elf, wizard, or robot list.
- 2.
Use the filters for that mode
In Real names, choose a provider-supported nationality and optional gender. In Fantasy, choose a category and optionally enter a first letter.
- 3.
Set the batch and generate
Choose from 1 to 20 results. A new generation replaces the visible batch, and a real-name request needs a connection to the provider.
- 4.
Copy one result or the batch
Each card has its own copy control. Copy Batch places one name per line on the clipboard for pasting into a document, table, or form.
Name generator FAQ
Does real-world mode send a request?
Yes. The requested count, nationality, and optional gender are sent to randomuser.me; RandomHub does not keep a local draw history. The external provider’s privacy terms apply to that request.
Are results guaranteed unique?
No. The provider returns random full names and a later request may repeat a previous result. Copy any names you want to keep before generating again.
About this name generator
This page combines an external realistic test-data source with local fantasy lists. It does not claim coverage for cultures the upstream API does not support, and real-world mode is not an offline feature. Use generated names as prompts or placeholder data, not as evidence that a name is culturally appropriate for a specific person.
